This role involves the design, testing, and support of electrical sub-systems in military vehicles, with a focus on resolving recurring component failures, reverse-engineering advanced vehicle systems, and ensuring compliance with standards.

Responsibilities:

Design of electrical sub-systems:

  • Specify, identify and test replacement items for recurring failures & obsolete vehicle components.

  • Design and/or reverse engineer state-of-the-art vehicle components and related sub-systems.

  • Creation and maintenance of accompanying design files.

  • Input to and compile Test Specifications, test and report writing.

  • Data pack generation and integration.

  • Compile manufacturing files from SolidWorks or equivalent.

  • Support Manufacturing Process Development (MPD) and input to Quality Requirements.

  • Configuration management input and control.

  • Logistic inputs to support definitions.

• System engineering:

  • Evaluation of conformance of sub-system(s).

  • Interface control and management for sub-system(s).

  • Generation of Hardware Breakdown Structures for sub-systems.

• Support procurement of hardware:

  • Support procurement & quality officers procuring hardware.

  • Support suppliers towards compliant supply.

  • Inspection and acceptance of “First of” manufactured or procured items.

• Vehicle fault finding and solutions:

  • Support fault finding and define solutions on the client's equipment, with focus on vehicle MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) tasks.

  • Compile and distribute technical bulletins for recurring breakdowns.

• Task Management:

◦Planning and management of task goals.

  • Ensure proper node-structure at task level for each task.

  • Ensure SOW’s are in-line with contracted requirements.

  • Plan material procurement at task level.

Requirements:

Proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent software):

  • Skilled in part modelling, advanced modelling for assemblies, and creating BOMs, parts lists, and material lists.

  • Conduct interference checks, and generate diagrams, manufacturing schematics, and detailed drawings as inputs for manufacturing.

  • Understanding of interoperability of modules, configuration management, and version control.

Adherence to Standards:

  • Apply ISO drawing and design standards.

  • Compile and maintain product definitions, BOMs, material lists, and related documentation via Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).

Engineering Expertise:

  • Design for cost, reliability, availability, manufacturability, maintainability, dependability, testability, and survivability.

  • Select appropriate materials and perform detailed designs for electrical/electronic systems, including manufacturing processes and testing.

  • Conceptualise innovative designs based on User Requirement Specifications (URS).

  • Strong understanding of vehicle CAN Bus systems and their functionalities.

Lifecycle and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Support subsystem development throughout the product lifecycle and extend the in-service lifecycle.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle issues using diagnostic tools.

Industry Experience and Education:

  • Familiarity with the military industry environment.

  • 8 years of relevant experience, particularly in military-standard vehicle component design, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, and qualification.

  • B.Eng. (Electrical) or equivalent qualification and experience.

Technical Skills and Initiative:

  • Proven track record in a design environment with significant experience.

  • Expertise in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.

  • Innovative thinker capable of translating user requirements into effective designs.

  • Be “KSA engineer wise”. (Consideration to User requirements (military standards), environmental conditions, etc.)
