This role focuses on the design, testing, and support of mechanical sub-systems in military vehicles, with an emphasis on addressing recurring component failures and optimizing vehicle systems.
Responsibilities:
Design of mechanical sub-systems:
Specify, identify and test replacement items for recurring failures & obsolete vehicle components.
Design and/or reverse engineer state-of-the-art vehicle components and related sub-systems.
Creation and maintenance of accompanying design files.
Input to and compile Test Specifications, test and report writing.
Data pack generation and integration.
Compile manufacturing files from SolidWorks.
Support Manufacturing Process Development (MPD) and input to Quality Requirements.
Configuration management input and control.
Logistic inputs to support definitions.
System engineering:
Evaluation of conformance of sub-system(s).
Interface control and management for sub-system(s).
Generation of Hardware Breakdown Structures for sub-systems.
Support procurement of hardware:
Planning and support of hardware procurement.
Support procurement & quality officers.
Support suppliers towards compliant supply.
Inspection and acceptance of “First of” manufactured or procured items.
Vehicle fault finding and solutions:
Support fault finding and defining of solutions on the client's military equipment, with focus on vehicle MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) tasks.
Compile and distribute technical bulletins for recurring breakdowns.
Task Management:
Planning and management of task goals.
Ensure proper node-structure at task level for each task.
Ensure SOW’s are in-line with contracted requirements.
Plan material procurement at task level.
Proficiency in SolidWorks (or equivalent software):
Skilled in part modelling, advanced modelling for assemblies, and creating BOMs, parts lists, and material lists.
Conduct interference checks, and generate diagrams, manufacturing schematics, and detailed drawings as inputs for manufacturing.
Understanding of interoperability of modules, e.g. ScanTo3D, configuration management and version control.
Adherence to Standards:
Apply ISO drawing and design standards.
Compile and maintain product definitions, BOMs, material lists, and related documentation via Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
Engineering Expertise:
Design for cost, reliability, availability, manufacturability, maintainability, dependability, testability, and survivability.
Select appropriate materials and perform detailed designs, including manufacturing, heat treatment, surface treatment and testing.
Conceptualise innovative designs based on User Requirement Specifications (URS).
Strong understanding of vehicle CAN Bus systems and their functionalities.
Lifecycle and Problem-Solving Skills:
Support subsystem development throughout the product lifecycle and extend the in-service lifecycle.
Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle issues using diagnostic tools.
Industry Experience and Education:
Familiarity with the military industry environment.
8 years of relevant experience, particularly in military-standard vehicle component design, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, and qualification.
B.Eng. (Mechanical) or equivalent qualification and experience.
