The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will have both strategic and tactical responsibility for driving the implementation of manufacturing engineering strategies and operational goals to surpass customer expectations. This includes overseeing product development, quality, cost, and delivery while maximizing efficiency and fostering engineering excellence. The role requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including customer service, manufacturing, sales, and customers, providing technical support for their activities. You will be responsible for all aspects of the engineering function and service delivery quality, aiming for best-in-class products and practices that meet or exceed customer expectations. This role involves managing teams and projects across the division.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Manufacturing Engineering: Take overall responsibility for manufacturing engineering activities across the business to ensure alignment with corporate goals.
Vision and Strategy Development: Develop and implement a best-in-class engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to enhance business performance.
Ensure Process Alignment: Ensure that manufacturing engineering strategies and processes align with business objectives and operational targets for price, quality, and delivery, enabling the company to compete effectively in the market.
Risk Mitigation & Opportunity Development: Evaluate business challenges and take proactive steps to mitigate risks while identifying and developing new opportunities.
Innovative Process Development: Drive the creation and development of creative and innovative manufacturing engineering processes that improve efficiency and quality.
Contract & Technical Documentation: Lead the preparation of technical and contract documentation, including the analysis of returned tenders.
Project Planning & Resource Allocation: Develop and prioritize processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary resources are effectively aligned to deliver projects on time.
Equipment and Engineering Support: Ensure all new equipment and engineering activities are supported by appropriate qualification documentation and properly stored, with up-to-date drawings maintained.
Manufacturability and Cost Management: Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure product manufacturability, while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and environmental compliance, and achieving cost targets within the specified timelines.
Quality and Reliability Standards: Establish and define quality and reliability standards based on industry benchmarks, customer requirements, and research/design criteria, and develop metrics to assess performance.
Leadership & Team Development: Provide leadership and coaching to engineering departments, mentoring direct reports to foster a high-performing team focused on continuous improvement, value addition, and cost reduction.
Performance Management: Set clear department objectives, monitor progress, and assess ongoing performance to ensure targets are met.
Budget Oversight: Input and take responsibility for engineering department budgets, ensuring financial goals are met.
Stakeholder Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance and alignment.
Support New Business Initiatives: Contribute to new business initiatives and projects, providing input and assessing the impact on engineering activities.
Support Sales & Product Development: Assist the sales team in developing product specifications and providing accurate quotes based on technical requirements.
Client Requirement Management: Assess and interpret client requirements, ensuring that all technical, legislative, and commercial aspects are addressed on each project.
